Reasons to Visit Belgium in 2017

Looking for your next trip and want something a little different? Belgium is an excellent holiday destination, whether you are a fan of outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing or mountaineering, want to chill by the beach, or soak in some culture with museums, galleries and a touch of shopping. The country is small enough that you can enjoy all the different aspects it has to offer, without having to travel too far.

Of course, when most of us hear the world Belgium we think of food, and it’s no wonder why! Belgian chocolate and waffles are famous, and when your sweet tooth is satisfied, and you want something a little more savory, there is friet met (chips and mayonnaise) or mussels. You certainly won’t go hungry in Belgium!

To wash it all down, grab some pale lager, Flemish Red Belgium or Lambic beer or go on one of the many brewery tours that are open to the public.

One of the most famous Belgium landmarks is the Manneken Pis, a statue of a little boy urinating which has a lot of history and legends behind it, which is an absolute must-see while you are in the country!

Casino Knokke is a lovely, relaxed casino that is worth a visit if you are feeling lucky. The building interior itself is a work of art that deserves to be seen and with parking right out front; there is nothing to stop you! Another excellent casino to visit is Casino-Kursaal Oostende which is a beautiful vintage casino which serves fantastic casino food and cocktails too!

Antwerp’s Vogeltjes markt is a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning. The market dates back to 1912 and was an animal selling market, whereas now, you can still purchase birds and rabbits, etc. but also other general market goods too. Perfect for a leisurely walk around.

While you’re in Antwerp, you should have a look at the diamonds on display, as 70% of all diamonds are sold in Antwerp. What a lovely place to buy an engagement ring – or just to treat yourself!

If you’re feeling cultured, you will be spoilt for choice in Belgium, with the Musée Royaux des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and Museum Voor Schone Kunsten in Ghent, where you will be able to see art from Van Dyck, Magritte, Rubens and more!

Although you might have thought that Belgium is all about the food, hopefully now you can see that it has so much more to offer and something for everyone!
