The Best Places to Visit in France

As beautiful and iconic as Paris is, France has so much more to offer, and by venturing outside of the capital, you will find places you could never have imagined! Don’t play it safe – here are some of the best places to visit in France!

Marseille is the second largest city in France, and being one of the oldest in Europe, it is full of culture and history, from the old port to Roman ruins. Certainly one for the history buffs!

If you are interested in politics or history, Strasbourg is another fantastic choice as it hosts the seat of the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights. Not to mention the Grande Île – a beautiful blend of German and French architecture, an incredible Gothic cathedral and more museums than you can visit in one day!

Lyon is full of secret hidden passageways which are fun to explore! If you want to explore Gothic churches, Fourvière is the place to be, or head over to Brotteaux and spend a day in the Tete d’Or Park.

There are so many reasons to head across to Monaco, even when the Formula 1 racing isn’t on! For a start, the Casino de Monte Carlo is a stunning building, which houses one of the most famous casinos in the world, as it is said to have been the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale and was used in the filming of 007’s adventures; Goldeneye and Never Say Never Again. The 108,000 square foot venue hosts an incredible 18 bars and restaurants and countless slots and table games – well worth a night out! Then check out the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco the beautiful harbor and the breathtaking Jardin Exotique (or, Exotic Garden).

Vincent Van Gogh once called Arles his home, and if it’s good enough for him, it’s certainly worth a visit! Marvel over the incredible Roman Amphitheatre, and if you’re lucky enough, catch a show or festival there too! In fact, you can immerse yourself in Roman structures and enjoy the beautiful, tranquil city.

If you fancy shopping in a stunning city, then Bordeaux is the place for you! Of course, it is worth a drive out to the wine country and a tour of a vineyard while you’re there too!

You really are spoilt for choice when you look further than Paris in France. Whatever your interests, be them culture and history, or gambling and shopping, France can offer it all!
